SPRING BACKGAMMON TOURNAMENT
This was held on Sunday 12th November 2006 at the Adelaide Hilton in Victoria Square. This was a triple elimination event and was by far the most complex draw we had ever undertaken. All credit to JOHN O’GRADY for having worked it all out. And if player’s comments are anything to go by, this was a great success. The event actually produced a 1st, 2nd and 3rd and they are;
1ST and CHAMPION - PETER GEELEN

2ND and FINALIST - BILL TOUBAKARIS, and
3RD - JOHN McLEAN
NEW [and returning] MEMBERS
Welcome to KERRI ROBINSON and good to see PERICLES DEDES back [always a dangerous player].
NICK PAPADOPOULOS
Good to see NICK PAPADOPOULOS back with us. Nick went to Greece for holidays, missed a step on some stairs, fell on his video camera and broke his leg between the hip and knee. A lengthy stay in hospitals in Greece and Australia followed and complications setting in requiring even more hospitalisation. Nick said, “as a professional painter I have been up and down ladders all my life and nothing like this has happened but on holidays, it all goes wrong”. He is slow in getting about, is still in pain and using a walking stick but still a formidable opponent. Welcome back Nick!
MILLION DOLLAR TOURNAMENT
We suggest you check out www.gammonlife.com/pgmillion.htm for information on this event to be held at the ATLANTIS RESORT in the BAHAMAS – January 21st – 25th, 2007.
MARK GRINDLAY
Mark has not been at all well for a few months now. He was very quickly struck down with a viral infection of the heart and has been extremely ill. We have been keeping close to his condition and our thoughts go to Claudie Tromp at this difficult time. Mark has been transferred from the Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide South Australia to The Alfred in Melbourne Victoria. He remains as he has all this period, heavily sedated and generally unaware of his surroundings. We wish him well.
