NOVEMBER 2005
We held two knockout tournaments on November 1st. The 1st NOVEMBER KNOCKOUT TOURNAMENT was won by JOHN McLEAN with commiserations to finalist EMMANUEL LAVRENTIADIS. The 2nd NOVEMBER KNOCKOUT TOURNAMENT was won by
CLAUDIE TROMP with commiserations to finalist EMIL ANDRAWOS.

NEW START TIME and POINT PENALTIES
A 7:00pm sharp start with the first late point being lost at 7:05pm. Merit rules will apply as normal apart from this change in case we need to organise a second tournament, again. Book ahead with John O’Grady or Nick Begakis.
2005 SPRING BACKGAMMON TOURNAMENT
Some 16 entrants contested this event on Sunday 27th November 2005 at the Hilton International Adelaide. EMIL ANDRAWOS won his first tournament ever. “I have been waiting 25 years for this” said Emil. Emil knocked out PETER GEELEN who said he had not played for a while and considered himself “rusty”. A consolation [but not much consolation to those knocked out] tournament of 8 was held for those ‘not live’ and CHRIS BENHAM knocked out Club President NICK BEGAKIS in the final.

DARRELL McDOWALL WINS EAST COAST MOVERS AND SHAKERS BACKGAMMON
TOURNAMENT
The inaugural EAST COAST MOVERS AND SHAKERS BACKGAMMON TOURNAMENT was held at the Byron Bay Beach Resort on the 15-16 October. Hamish Whetstone on whetstone@dodo.com.au advised the following results. There were 30 entrants from around Australia—Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle, Gold Coast—who fought it out for the $1,200 prize-money. A Calcutta was organised and STEVE ROBERTS won that. And $726 [for just a $7 outlay]. The Champion over the 2 days play was DARRELL McDOWALL of Brunswick Heads with EPHRAIM SELLA of Burringbar the Finalist. Congratulations to the organisers and it was good to see one of the organisers, HAMISH WHETSTONE as a runner-up in the consolation round.

MEETING DATES 2005 / 2006
Last night for the league is Tuesday 29th November. In December, we will be organising knockout Tournaments every night. Our last meeting for the year will be Tuesday 20th December and our first meeting in 2006 will be Tuesday 3rd January.
