Bill Korallis - Winner 1st half 2002 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

Justin Freytag - Winner 2002 Angie Hambour Memorial Tournament

2002 SA CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 1st HALF YEAR RESULTS.
BILL KORALLIS
DEFEATS
SIEGFRIED POHLENZ

The 2002 Club Championship Playoffs first half season had, as usual, ten starters. In order they were;

  1. SEIGFRIED POHLENZ
  2. NICK BEGAKIS AM
  3. JOHN O'GRADY
  4. BILL TOUBAKARIS
  5. KOSTIS TSOUKARIS
  6. PETER PETROFF
  7. CHRIS BENHAM
  8. ROGER PRIME
  9. ANGELO ALI
  10. BILL KORALLIS

In all of this, BILL KORALLIS just scraped through in at number 10. But he showed his latent potential by blitzing the field and knocking off, in the final rounds, both NICK BEGAKIS in the semi's and SIEGFRIED POHLENZ in the final to win through. Bill has struggled with poor form for some time but just can't do a thing wrong, right now. Bill now plays in the Grand Final at year's end. If he plays as well in the second half as in the first, he may yet get to “play with himself” in the final.

Well done-BILL KORALLIS.

JUSTIN FREYTAG WINS THE 2002 ANGIE HAMBOUR MEMORIAL BACKGAMMON CHAMPIONSHIPS

A full but restricted field of 16 starters played an innovative second chance tournament designed to give players more than one chance a victory. As it was, JUSTIN FREYTAG cruised through without a loss. The final required BILL TOUBAKARIS to win two matches but, as shown below, this was not necessary. The final match score sheet showing the close win by JUSTIN FREYTAG over BILL TOUBAKARIS is below.
