Winners can afford to make a phone call
Sydney's Gabby Nagata swept all before her in the male-dominated field at the inaugural "Backgammon at Georges" event held on Sunday 5th February 2006. She won both tournaments, defeating some of Sydney's top players along the way. Here is organiser and tournament director Jay Deva's report, followed by photos...
Hello Fellow Backgammoners
CONGRATS GABBY on winning both the tournaments.Major & minor winner. U are the b/g queen of the month.
What do u do for an encore? Love ya work.
It was a 3 way play-off between Ryan,Jim and Gabriella with Gabby coming out on top (don't u love it). Congrats to Jim and Ryan as well.
THANK YOU to all those who did attend on the day.Hope u all enjoyed the venue, ambience & the company of your fellow players.Great to see some people I have not seen for a long time esp.John who had to travel a long way(6 hr travel time).
Boys & girls(wish more would play) I would appreciate some sort of feed back or "penny for your thoughts", be it positive or constructive criticism. For me to organize more tournaments(in the pipeline) with sponsors involved I need information and also for u, the players, to spread the word i.e. bring along other players or friends(thank u Zvi).Sponsors need to see numbers. For all those who did partake of the menu ---was it good? I definitely know so.
To the nitty, gritty.Gabby jumped over the moon with $600 cash,$150 in George's vouchers plus she ran away with the spoon. Instead of a trophy she received a professional chef's knife set.More practical than a plastic trophy,I say what!!! Do u like it Gabby? Ryan and Jim won $320.
I would also like to thank George for accommodating us @ his fantastic venue. He was a great host with very pleasant staff who looked after us well. Those who did not sample the food missed out on value. Thanks again George. Should we do it again?
It was a great day, more so, for some than others. Thank u to the friends who have already emailed me. You'll be the first on my next list of invites. More supporters are needed or should I call them backgammon volunteers.
