28 Dec 07 - Congratulations to Darren O'Shaughnessy (Rourke) winner of Australian FIBS Tournament 36. Darren defeated Malcolm Hutson (waldo) in a repeat of T35's final. The consolation was won by Gerry Nugawela (janela) from Kevin Jessup (KevinJessup).

The Consolation was won by Steve Clarry (clay) from Virginia Jones (Loversleap). T36 is open for entries and will run through October/November. 29 May 07 - Important news for Sydney players.

Sydney Backgammon will not be running tournaments on Tuesday Nights at the Royal Exhibition Hotel until further notice. We are in the process of looking for a new venue near Bondi Junction; this is very exciting as when this is established there will be all types of tournaments to suit beginners to advanced, as well as chouette and fun games. In the meantime, you are still welcome to play chouette on Tuesday nights at the Royal Exhibition Hotel.

28 May 07 - Congratulations to Tim Hochgrebe (OzDiver) winner of Australian FIBS Tournament 34. Tim defeated Malcolm Hutson (waldo) to win his second consecutive tournament. The Consolation was also won for the second consecutive time, by Kevin Jessup from Darren O'Shaughnessy. All the details here and latest ratings here. 28 Apr 07 - Congratulations to Tim Hochgrebe (OzDiver), winner of Australian FIBS Tournament 33 and runner-up Mimi Belleli (GoMimi) . David Kinston and Steve Clarry were semi-finalists. The Consolation was won by Kevin Jessup from Ian Dunstan.

22 Apr 07 - Backgammon at Georges - Congratulations to Daniel Mayoh.
Jay reports: "The starters gun saw 14 people approaching the first hurdle. Naturally the falls at the first hurdle prompted me to run another field of 8 which prolonged the start of the chouette action. Eventually all the favourites fell by the wayside with the final outcome being Daniel triumphing over Zoe with Tom & Stewart being worthy semi-finalists."

18 Mar 07 - Backgammon at Georges. Congratulations to Marijo Udovicic and John McAleenan who each won $50 tournaments. Ben Phillips was a runner-up.

17 Mar 07 - Backgammon Association of SA - 2006 Club Championship Results:

The winner of the 1st half 2006 Club Championship is Vassilis (Bill) Toubakaris.
The Winner of the 2nd half 2006 Club Championship is Angelo Ali.
These two extremely competitive and successful players played off in a best of 3, 9 point match final.

The results were as follows.

Game 1: ANGELO 2 - VASSILIS 11 - one to Vassilis
Game 2: ANGELO 9 - VASSILIS 6 - one to Angelo
Game 1: ANGELO 9 - VASSILIS 4 - two to Angelo

Congratulations to our new 2006 Club Champion, ANGELO ALI and our commiserations to Vassilis Toubakaris.

25 Feb 07 - Congratulations to JUSTIN FREYTAG, winner of the 2007 SA Open. Justin defeated VASSILIOS TOUBAKARIS [15 - 8]. The Consolation Tournament was won by JOHN O'GRADY who defeated ELKE LEWANDOWSKI [5 - 3].

11 Feb 07 - The first Sunday meeting of Sydney Backgammon for 2007 saw 18 intrepid players turn up on a stormy Sunday. Congratulations to $50 Tournament Winner Sean Williams and runner-up Marijo Udovicic. Ivor Bitel and Ryan Jones were the semi-finalists. The $30 Tournament was won by Zoe Cunningham from Eva Bitel.

05 Feb 07 - Congratulations to Kevin Jessup for making the quarter-finals of the FIBS 2006 Fall Tournament. The Australian FIBS Tournaments have $50 added this year - T33 is under way now. Details here.

31 Jan 07 - The first million-dollar backgammon tournament in history, organized by Player International Ltd of the UK, was won by Andreas Märtens of Germany, a former billiards player who switched to backgammon. He won $600,400 last Friday afternoon at the Atlantis Resort in The Bahamas by defeating Lasse Hjorth Madsen of Denmark 23-22 in the final match of the 128-player tournament.
